Hurricane, the legendary U.S. Secret Service dog known for stopping an intruder at the White House in 2014, has sadly passed away at the age of 16. The Belgian Malinois dedicated his life to protecting the nation and remained an inspiration even after his retirement.
In 2014, Hurricane bravely confronted an intruder who attempted to scale the White House fence while President Barack Obama and his family were inside. Despite being punched and kicked, the fearless K-9 subdued the individual, ensuring the safety of the First Family.
His heroism earned him multiple prestigious awards, including the Department of Homeland Security Secretary’s Award for Valor and the U.S. Secret Service Award for Merit.
Throughout his life, Hurricane was honored for his courage and unwavering service. After retiring in 2016 due to injuries sustained during the incident, his story continued to inspire many. His handler, Marshall Mirarchi, later founded K9 Hurricane’s Heroes, a non-profit organization supporting retired working dogs.
